The San Diego Undersea Film Exhibition (SDUFEX) began in 2000, when a small group of underwater video enthusiasts who regularly gathered at Chuck Nicklin’s dive shop to share their knowledge of underwater filming and editing organized the first exhibition. What started as a shared passion for underwater filmmaking would grow into an internationally recognized celebration of underwater storytelling.
 

Following Chuck Nicklin’s leadership, SDUFEX was guided by Presidents Mary Lynn Price (2007–2009), Eric Hanauer (2010), and Pete Fowler (2011–2014), each contributing to the exhibition’s continued growth and success.
 

Over the years, SDUFEX has established itself as one of the world’s most respected underwater film festivals. Held at the state-of-the-art Qualcomm Hall in San Diego, the two-night event regularly sells out, welcoming more than 500 attendees each evening. With affordable ticket prices, a unique lineup of films each night, and selections carefully curated by a panel of distinguished independent judges, SDUFEX offers an exceptional experience for filmmakers and audiences alike.
 

Throughout its history, SDUFEX has showcased the work of some of the world’s most accomplished underwater filmmakers, including Howard and Michele Hall, Flip Nicklin, Leandro Blanco, Terry Maas, Shawn Heinrichs, and Simon Spear.
